Meet Tatoulla
You can meet Tatoulla and her first collection at Tulisan’s booth in Darmawangsa Square from 11 am – 8 pm, starting this Monday, May 2 until Friday, May 13th, 2011.

Tatoulla is a nick name for Tikyta Syarani – a residence artist of Tulisan since September 2010. Her work is very whimsical, sunny, and a fusion of imaginative hand sketches and quirky vocabulary of digital graphic. This May, I would like to feature her first silkscreened creation ‘Lucernia Life’ as part of Tulisan’s limited edition products.
Born in Indonesia, Tatoulla studied graphic design at Raffles Design Institute of Singapore and Curtin International College, Perth. She enjoys bossa nova, crochê-ing, vintage movies, and afternoon coffee – all of which are her endless source of inspirations. For her, observing life as it is comes with the essential details needed to be captured.
As it goes with all our products, ‘Lucernia Life’ collection also comes with a short story wonderfully written by Rassi Narika:
LUCERNIA LIFE
The soil had not budge for days. It had been a couple of weeks into spring yet the wind still possessed the coldness of winter that should have been gone by then. The long anticipated smell of Lucernias was not in the air, nor did their calming view across the meadow. The days after winter had been awfully quiet without their presence.
But right when everybody stopped noticing, spring came and caressed. The tall tree on the corner fortified a group of gleeful Lucernias. The flowers moved swiftly with the breeze in a flirtatious sway. Mystifyingly, Mister Handsome Ladybug buzzed the stories of the thousand miles he travelled only to greet the onion sprouts. Such a courageous bug.
As much as I would want them to stay all year long, the season took its course and life evolved at its own pace. At the end of the summer, the meadow had turned into a hollow prairie. It was time to bid farewell to the Lucernias, the flower of life. I gazed and saw a group of cattle gathered around to consume the withered flowers. Another phase of life is taking turn to commence.

KEHIDUPAN LUCERNIA

Aside from ‘the signature art’, Tatoulla created the three other derivative visual compositions: ‘tile work’, ‘surface study’, ‘reverse’.

Below are original moleskin sketches of Lucernia Life by Tatoulla.
